Sedation Dentistry in Denver, CO
Nervous about visiting the dentist? Don’t worry, you aren’t alone! Some of our patients experience dental fear and anxiety, but with the help of our sedation options, they’re able to feel relaxed while they get the dental care they need!
Nitrous Oxide (Laughing Gas)
Nitrous oxide, also known as “laughing gas,” is a sweet-smelling gas that is inhaled through a comfortable mask placed over the nose. It helps patients feel calm and at ease during their treatment. When the treatment is complete and the mask is removed, patients should start feeling normal after taking a few breaths of regular air. If your child is experiencing dental anxiety, laughing gas is safe and effective for children, too!
Oral Conscious Sedation
Oral conscious sedation is a prescribed anti-anxiety medication that’s most commonly used for our more anxious patients. The pill is taken by mouth before the appointment begins and helps to minimize anxiety while sending patients into a deep state of relaxation. With oral conscious sedation, patients will be conscious throughout the treatment and able to communicate with Dr. Wyte and our team. However, they will not be able to drive after their appointment and will need to bring someone along who can escort them home.
IV sedation is administered to patients through an IV, and is used for more complex dental treatments and procedures. With IV sedation, our skilled team will carefully monitor the sedation throughout the procedure. Like oral conscious sedation, patients will need a friend or family member to drive them home when their treatment is finished.
